About the role:

Reporting to the Engineering Department, the Mechanical Design and CAD Technician is responsible for creating, updating, organizing, and maintaining CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation that support engineering, manufacturing, and production operations.

This position is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with strong technical aptitude, CAD skills, and the ability to learn product structures, manufacturing processes, tooling concepts, and vehicle layouts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 3D Modelling:
    • Create accurate 3D models of products, components, tooling, assemblies, and manufacturing layouts.
    • Develop CAD models from sketches, engineering concepts, measurements, and existing documentation.
    • Maintain model accuracy and consistency with engineering standards.
  • Engineering Drawings:
    • Prepare detailed engineering drawings from 3D models and engineering requirements.
    • Produce manufacturing, assembly, and fabrication drawings.
    • Ensure drawings are complete, accurate, and suitable for production use.
    • Apply drafting standards, dimensions, tolerances, and revision controls.
  • CAD Documentation Management:
    • Update existing CAD models, engineering drawings, and related documentation.
    • Implement engineering changes and revisions promptly.
    • Maintain document accuracy and traceability.
  • CAD Library Management:
    • Maintain the engineering CAD database and drawing library.
    • Support file organization, document control, and version management.
    • Ensure engineering records are properly stored and accessible.
  • Legacy Drawing Conversion: 
    • Convert historical drawings and documents into current CAD formats.
    • Validate converted models and drawings for accuracy and completeness.
    • Maintain consistency with current drafting standards.
  • Engineering Support:
    • Assist Engineering and Production teams with technical documentation requirements.
    • Support data collection and documentation for products, tooling, molds, fixtures, and manufacturing layouts.
    • Collaborate with the Lead Mould Engineer on project priorities and CAD requirements.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering documentation and manufacturing processes.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Certificate Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design Technology, Industrial Design Technology, CAD Technology (Mechanical Focus).
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar platforms, is considered an ASSET.

  • Interest in manufacturing, engineering, and product development
  • Strong spatial reasoning.
  • Engineering drawing creation.
  • CAD documentation updates.
  • CAD file organization and library maintenance.
  • Legacy drawing conversion.
  • Engineering data capture.

  • Attention to Detail: Reviews drawings, models, and documentation carefully to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Organization: Maintains CAD files and engineering documentation in a structured and reliable way.
  • Learning Agility: Quickly learns manufacturing processes, vehicle layouts, and documentation requirements.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Works effectively with Engineering and Production teams, to clarify needs and complete documentation tasks.
  • Accountability & Follow-Through: Takes ownership of assigned CAD and documentation updates through to completion.

Remuneration: CA$45,000 to CA$58,000 annually

Job Type: Full-time, permanent, indoors, modern factory

Location: Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada
